Roland L. “Mike” Burns of Wilmington, formerly of Winthrop, died in his home surrounded by his family on January 7, 2016. He was 81 years of age. He was born in Winthrop, Massachusetts on August 29, 1934 the son of the late Fredrick W. and Mary L. (Starkweather) Burns. He was the beloved husband of Maria J. (Scuteri) Burns. Devoted father of Anne Maria Griffin and her husband John of Wilmington and James R. Burns and his wife Heather of Tewksbury. Cherished brother of the late Fredrick W. and James W. Burns. Loving grandfather of Joshua and Lauren Griffin, Cassia, Jaime and Chloe Burns and dear cousin of Elizabeth “Lizzy” King of Somerville.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 11 at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading at 11:00am. Burial to follow at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Funeral home visiting hours Sunday from 4:00-8:00pm. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital 51 Blossom St. Boston MA 02114. Roland was a veteran of the US Air Force National Guard.
