BOSTON, MA — String-instrument players from the Wilmington “Strings Attached” Orchestra made their way into the Massachusetts State House amid festive holiday decorations for their annual performance as part of the Winter Concert Series as a guest of Representative James Miceli, and showcased their hard-practiced talents to officials and the public alike. After filing in and setting up their instruments, students, parents, and audience members stopped for a moment for a surprise visit from Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin, who praised the students for their achievement of being part of the State House Winter Concert Series and Director Liz Ehrman, for her leadership and teaching.
Highlights of the concert included pieces such as “Little Drummer Boy” which included a performance by the Strings Attached newly added percussion section, Ukrainian Bell Carol, and their signature piece, Royal Fireworks . The music, heard throughout the building, caught the ear of many including Sheriff Peter Koutoujian, and several State Representatives from across the Commonwealth. Numerous tourists, from across the state, country, and world also stopped to photograph and enjoy the performers, who gathered at the foot of the historic Grand Staircase made for a special treat.
“I am immensely proud of the Strings Attached Orchestra,” said Representative Miceli of the group. “I have had the pleasure of watching them grow and flourish since their start, and one of the honors I am most proud to have received in my years of public service is my “King of String” title from the group for working with them on hosting numerous performances, such as this one. Director Ehrman and her students are truly second-to-none, and I have no doubts that they were the talk of the State House after their performance.”
The Wilmington Strings Attached program began in 1987, and has grown to include over 400 members from 4th to 12th grade. High School members are eligible to travel abroad, where they officially represent the United States and Wilmington to the international community. Previous tours have taken the group to the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, and Italy. Upon the conclusion of the concert Director Liz Ehrman was very pleased with the performance. “These students were ambassadors today for the town of Wilmington. Next year-France!”
