WILMINGTON, MA — At their meeting last week, the Wilmington School Committee accepted $2,3973.92 in donations from the Wilmington School Business Partnership in the form of Innovative Teacher Grants.
According to School Superintendent Mary DeLai, Innovative Teacher Grants are designed to encourage creativity in the schools, develop alternative or more effective methods of instruction, and reward imaginative education.
The 2015 grant recipients included:
- Michelle LeVesque (West) — “Let’s Get Movin'” — $488.92
- Kristen Walsh & Erin O’Connor (Boutwell) — Howda HUG: Alternative Seating in the Classroom — $500
- Heather Peachey & Michelle Kurchian (North & West) — Fountas and Pinnell in the Library — $400
- Traci Jansen (Wildwood, Boutwell, Woburn St. & Shawsheen) — Robotics and Engineering with BeeBots
- Cheryl Cazeau, Kathy Quigley, & Chelsea Lembo (Shawsheen, North, West, Woburn St. & WMS) — Using a Document Camera to Integrate Technology — $470

The Wilmington School Committee also accepted a $1,000 donation to the Shawsheen Elementary School from Denise McKeown and an anonymous $2,500 donation from a WHS parent to fund a presentation from Jeff Allison, who visited the Middle School last year, as part of the High School’s substance abuse education initiative — the Wildcat Project.
