WILMINGTON, MA — At Monday’s Board of Selectmen Meeting, Town Manager Jeff Hull announced the Wilmington had received a state grant from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP).
According to a memo written by Director of Public Works Michael Woods, and provided to Selectmen, the town applied for a MassDEP Sustainable Materials Recovery Program Municipal Grant in May.
The grant assists cities and towns with the purchase of wheeled carts related to single stream recycling programs. With Wilmington’s transition to automated collection and 64-gallon trash carts, the Town recently became eligible for the grant.
MassDEP notified Wilmington last week that it was, in fact, being awarded the grant. The town purchased 7,131 recycling carts and will receive up to $71,310 from the grant–$10 for every cart purchase. The grant will help offset some of the cost of each barrel.
