WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Relay for Life Committee has announced that the 2016 American Cancer Society event will be held at the High School on Friday, June 17. When construction began on the new school, the annual town fund raiser moved to make way for the work. But for next year, the committee has received permission to go back to the original venue.
“We are so grateful to all the people who worked with us at Shawsheen Tech and the middle school,” says Committee representative Sheryl Walsh. “They were both wonderful venues, but now it feels like we are going home.”
The first Relay was held at the high school in 2009. Since that time, the Wilmington effort has raised almost $900,000 to fight back against cancer. Planning and activities have already begun for 2016.
