Wilmington Lt. Scott Sencabaugh To Receive Leadership Award For School Safety Efforts

WILMINGTON, MA — Lt. Scott A. Sencabaugh of the Wilmington Police Department was recently named the recipient of the 2015 Mayor Theodore Mann Award For Regional Leadership by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC).

Lt. Sencabaugh serves as a Training Director for the Wilmington Police Department and the Unit Commander for NEMLEC’s School Threat Assessment and Response System (STARS). Sencabaugh was instrumental in bringing the ALICE school safety protocol to Wilmington and many other communities around the state.

Wilmington Town Manager Jeff Hull announced the news at the end of Monday’s Wilmington Board of Selectmen Meeting.

“This award is made each year to a local government official with a distinguished record in regional leadership, inter-municipal cooperation, and public service,” said Hull.

The notification letter sent to Sencabaugh reads, in part:

As the Unit Commander for the NEMLEC STARS, you have gone above and beyond the call of service by working to improve the safety of the children and staff in our schools. Your ability to bring together experts from so many different disciplines and municipalities to form the unique resource that is STARS is an extremely valuable asset to the region, and this collaborative approach makes each school that you work with safer. Additionally, your participation in other state and federal efforts such as Governor Patrick’s School Safety Task Force, and the Justice Department’s Framework for Prevention and Intervention Strategies further demonstrate the high regard in which your work is held.

Sencabaugh will receive the award at MAPC’s Fall Council Meeting on Thursday, October 29 at 9am at the U-Mass Boston Campus Center.
