WILMINGTON, MA — Below are Wilmington Youth Soccer in-town game summaries from Saturday, October 17, 2015.
Boys Grade 1 Games:
NE Revolution vs. NY Redbulls
In what could have been confused as a World Cup Match, the short handed Revolution had great offensive pressure from Dennis Reppucci and Chase O’Brien throughout the game. This was coupled with steel-like defense from Ari Donn and Jonathan Malley. The Revolution’s efforts for an incredible game that left the crowd cheering for more.
LA Galaxy vs. Houston Dynamo
A fantastic clash of titans on a chilly Saturday morning as the LA Galaxy took on the Houston Dynamo. Non-stop action from the opening whistle as Jack Morin, Cameron Molina and Henry Almeda pressured the Dynamo defense time and time again. The Defensive strong hold of Jake Driscoll and Nicholas Melaragni kept the game close and set up for a dramatic finish.
Girls Grade 1 Games:
Portland vs. Kansas City
FC Kansas City was also impressive on the offensive side of the ball with great skill being displayed by Olivia Raposa and Ellie Gillis leading to goals by Lucy Mendoza, Emma Callahan, Savannah Beatrice and Hailey Reguera. The defense showcased their skills today with Dani Madore and Caitlin Hayes keeping the ball out of their zone for much of the game. FC Kansas City’s teamwork was stellar.
Boston Breakers vs. Chicago Red Stars
Top-notch play kept people watching this one. Excellent offensive plays by the Red Stars’ Angelina Vo, Olivia Martinello, and Anna Heiplik applied heavy pressure making the Breakers back pedal. Defensive positioning by Celina Vo, Bailey O’Connor, Emma Tarin and Jenna Giammarco fended off any threat that came through, making it tough for the Breakers to score.
Girls Grade 2 Games:
Boston Breakers vs. Chicago Red Stars
The air was full of excitement, as the much-anticipated match between The Boston Breakers and The Chicago Red Stars commenced. Fantastic ball skill were displayed by Sabrina Fitzgerald, Alexis LeBlanc, and Kaitlyn Shackelford resulting in goals by Nicole Gallucci and Summer Sands. The midfield and defensive play of Samantha Crowley, Leah Murphy, Marina Feeney, and Micayla King kept the Boston Breakers in excellent shape. The crowd roared to their feet when Madelyn Oatis and Katherine Hughes made some spectacular saves.
The Chicago Red Stars were also impressive on the offensive side of the ball with great skill being displayed by Alison McElligott, Isabelle Merritt, and Jessica Lefave leading to goals by Ava Noble, Arianna Fasulo and Makayla Scaramozza. The defense showcased their skills with Samantha Bolanos, Jailyn DiNuccio, and Mackenzie Weatherbee keeping the ball out of their zone for much of the game; while the goal keeping team of Maeve White and Zayjiana Ramirez made this game close.
Houston Dash vs. Portland Thorns
The air was full of excitement, as the much-anticipated rematch between the Dash and Thorns commenced. Fantastic ball skill were displayed by Shannon Barrett, Ava Warford and Skylar Nguyen resulting in goals by Kristal Wells and Erin McCarthy. The midfield and defensive play of Cate MacDonald, Gianna Grieco and Tessa Lebrecque-Pinneau kept the Dash in excellent shape. The crowd roared to their feet when Srilasya Mallajosyula and Sophia Cataldi made some spectacular saves.
The Portland Thorns were also impressive on the offensive side of the ball with great skill being displayed by Charlotte Forcina, Allison Boutoures, Zoey Helbert and Isabella Zaya leading to goals by Abigail Fennelly and Lindsay Broussard. The defense was also showing their skills today with Sofia Tentindo, Ava Cirone and Isabella Rogers keeping the ball out of their zone for much of the game, while the goal keeping team of Casey Kelley and Cayley Israelson kept this game close.
Washington Sprit vs. Seattle Reign
The Washington Spirit would not back down from this back and forth match. Goals by Maddie Gryglik brought the crowd to a frenzy. A spectacular display of defensive skills was shown by Cara DiGiovanni, Macy Savage, and Mikayla Cella. In addition, the midfield play of Lily Abbott, Maria McCarthy, Mackenzie Scanlon, and Maeve Doherty kept constant pressure on the opponent’s net. The outstanding goal-tending skills of Abby Wiklund and Emma Callahan kept the team in the game and the crowd on their feet!!!
Boys Grade 2 Games:
LA Galaxy vs. Seattle Sounders
One could only believe the silence of the crowd was due to the fantastic ball skill of Cameron Pereira, Chris Smith and Ronin Uftring. It did not take long for the crowd to cheer for the constant communication and passing displayed in the middle of the pitch by Nolan Gouthro, Camden Gray, Tyler Matthew and Owen Wills . The L.A. Galaxy defensive stands made by Ryan Lavorato and Dominic Dicenso could only be viewed as heroic. Isaac Tavares did a great job as goalkeeper as well as in the field.
DC United vs. Houston Dynamo
Nobody stayed home for this action packed game. The DC United’s Ryan Gray and Adam Veliz scored, getting the crowd jumping out of their seats. Outstanding offense by Timothy Watson, Chase Heffernan, Luke Kitanov, and Brendan Ferrone set up many scoring chances. The flawless defense of Alexander D’Angelo, Dylan Grace, John Haggerty, Luke Deprofio, and Ethan Afthim provided great protection for the Goal Keepers. The crowd roared to their feet when Quinn Stockman and Logan Zimmer made some spectacular saves.
