Wilmington Recreation Dept. Announces Gingerbread House Class For Kids & Much More!

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Recreation Department wants residents to know that there are still openings for the programs below!  Registration information can be found HERE.

Horribles Parade
Mark your calendar!  On Sunday, October 25, the Recreation Department is sponsoring the 48th annual Horribles Parade.  A fire engine will lead the parade down Church Street to the High School Cafeteria where treats will await all costumed children.  The parade will leave the Public Safety Building at 4:30 p.m.  In case of inclement weather, participants should go directly to the Wilmington High School Cafeteria.  Boys and girls – bring a bag to carry your treats.  See you there!

Canobie Lake Park Screeemfest/Oktoberfest Tickets
Admission Tickets: $29 (Save $3 – $7)
Tickets valid thru Saturday, October 31.
For anyone 48” tall and over; ages three & under are free.  Parking is free.

Top Secret Science & Math
Instructor: Michael Bergen, Mass. Science Center
Grades: 1 – 5
Dates: Mondays, November 2 – December 7
Time: 4 – 5 p.m.
Location: Town Hall Auditorium
Cost: $68

The kids can have a blast (literally!) while they learn!  This program follows state guidelines for required curriculums.  Children will complete many experiments each day under the instruction of an experienced and professional science teacher.

Chefs in Training
Grades: 3-7
Location: WHS Consumer Science Room

Potato Gnocchi
Instructor: Liza Connolly
Date: Tuesday, November 3, 4 – 5:45 p.m.
Cost: $35

In this new hands-on class, students will make and shape the dough by hand.  The potato gnocchi will then will then be cooked and served with a delicious fall veggie sauce.  Students will bring home the recipe to share with the family.

Gingerbread House
Instructor: Lori Deliso
Date: Thursday, December 3, 4 – 6 p.m.
(Snow date: Friday, December 4)
Cost: $45

In this hands-on class, students will observe the process of making dough, rolling it out and cutting it into pieces.  Using pre-baked homemade walls, students will construct and decorate a gingerbread house.  Learn simple and fun decorating techniques including the use of pastry bag.  Each student will bring home their own decorated gingerbread house.

ELF The Broadway Musical
Wednesday, December 2, 7:00 p.m.

The hilarious tale of Buddy, a young orphan child who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported back to the North Pole.  With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father, discover his true identity, and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.  This modern day Christmas classic is sure to make everyone embrace their inner ELF.

Take a bite out of the Big Apple!  Board our luxury motorcoach at 6:30 a.m. for a fabulous day experiencing the sights and sounds of NYC.  Arrive home at approximately 1 a.m.

“In the Holiday Mood” Day Trip

This festive trip begins with appetizers and luncheon at Chez Josef in Agawam, followed by Eight to the Bar.  Drawing its musical influences from Swing, Boogie-Woogie, Rhythm & Blues, Soul and Motown, they are known for outstanding instrumentalists and vocal arrangements.  On the way home, we will drive through the Bright Nights Christmas Display in Springfield.  You are sure to be “in the holiday mood” at the end of the day!
