5 QUICK QUESTIONS with Wilmington Town Manager Jeff Hull

WILMINGTON, MA —  Town Manager Jeff Hull has helped run the Town of Wilmington since 1987 — 25 yeas as Assistant Town Manager and the past three years at Town Manager.  And, thanks to a vote by the Board of Selectmen earlier this week, Hull will likely be in charge for at least another three years.

The Wilmington Board of Selectmen reappointed Hull to a 3-year term at their Tuesday night meeting. Hull’s new contract runs from October 1, 2015 to September 30, 2018.  The contract vote was unanimous, with Selectman Lou Cimaglia abstaining due to his town employee status.

Town Manager Jeff Hull was gracious enough to answer five quick question from Wilmington Apple!

Q1) What was your reaction to being reappointed Town Manager for another 3 years?

A1) I am gratified that the Board of Selectmen have the confidence in me to reappoint me for three years.

Q2) What do you see as your top 2-3 accomplishments from your first 3 years as Manager?

A2) The accomplishments I am most proud of are: the hiring and promotion of some very dedicated and talented individuals who are making great contributions to the delivery of services; formalizing a 5-year Capital Improvement Plan to provide clarity on the major investments the Town must make in the foreseeable future; further strengthening the Town’s finance position through increasing reserves and beginning to address long term liabilities.

Q3) What do you see as your top 2-3 biggest challenges over the next 3 years as Manager?

A3) Sustaining and making further improvements to the Town’s financial health.  Demands will always exceed resources and there will be downturns similar and perhaps worse than those we have previously weathered.  Establishing and implementing a realistic long term approach to providing school and general government facilities that are conducive to educating Wilmington’s children and to providing the services residents expect.  Providing a place for Wilmington youth and adults to have convenient and affordable access to ice skating.

Q4) You’ve been working in Wilmington since 1987!  What do you enjoy most about working for this town?

A4) I work with some very positive and talented people that have been incredibly supportive of me.  I will forever be grateful to them.

Q5) What makes Wilmington such a special place?

A5) It has been said many times but Wilmington has a tremendous reservoir of good will and community spirit that is always on display in many forms.

In case you were wondering…

Selectman Chair Mike Champoux explained to Wilmington Apple that Hull will receive an annual salary increase of 3% over each of the next three years. Champoux noted, however, that a majority of the Board of Selectmen can initiate a formal “review” process prior to July 1 of any given year. A majority of the Board of Selectmen can then vote to adjust the 3% salary increase for the subsequent year from anywhere from 0% to 2.999% based on their assessment of Hull’s performance.

Champoux classified all other changes in the contract as “housekeeping” and “language fixes” with no other substantive revisions.
