Wilmington Youth Soccer’s Latest In-Town Game Summaries (October 10)

WILMINGTON, MA — Below are Wilmington Youth Soccer in-town game summaries from Saturday, October 10, 2015.

Boys Grade 1 Games:

NE Revs vs. Seattle Sounders

Nobody stayed home for this action packed game. The Revolution’s Ari Donn, Dennis Reppucci and Jonathan Malley scored, getting the crowd jumping out of their seats. Outstanding offense by Chase O’Brien and Nate Anderson set up many scoring chances. The flawless defense of Chase Levesque provided great protection for the goal.

DC United vs LA Galaxy

A low scoring affair as the LA Galaxy hosted D.C. United on a crisp October Saturday afternoon.  The action was up and down the field from the opening whistle with multiple scoring chances by each team but stellar defensive play by both teams was the story of the day.  Nicholas Melargani finally broke through though on a feed from Jonathan Stokes to open the scoring.  The middle of the game was dominated by defensive with goals saving plays made by Henry Almeda, and Richard Holland.   The crowd was on their feet as there were goal chances late in the contest and then Jack Morin fed Jake Driscoll for a late goal to send everyone home happy.

Girls Grade 1 Games:

Portland Thorns vs. Chicago Red Stars

On the other side of the ball for the Red Stars was an incredible offensive performance from Bailey O’Connor leading to goals from Anna Heiplik got the Red Stars on the board. With a rock solid defensive stand from Jenna Giammarco the Red Stars were never out of the game. The midfield play of Emma Tarin could only be described as awesome.

Girls Grade 2 Games:

Washington Sprit vs. Boston Breakers

Nobody stayed home for this action packed game. The Washington Spirit’s Sarah Sampson scored, getting the crowd jumping out of their seats. Outstanding offense by Lily Abbott, Mikayla Cella, and Mackenzie Scanlon set up many scoring chances. The flawless defense of Abby Wiklund, Emma Callahan, and Maddie Gryglik provided great protection for the Goal Keepers. Extraordinary skills were displayed by goalies, Maria McCarthy and Macy Savage, who made some exceptional plays. All-in-all a great game!

Proving they were also World Cup Competitors Madelyn Oatis and Summer Sands scored for the Boston Breakers in this hard fought game. Sabrina Fitzgerald, Marina Feeney, and Nicole Gallucci added the offensive punch and Katherine Hughes, Samantha Crowley, and Leah Murphy held up the defense. It was an outstanding team effort capped off with great goal keeping by Alexis LeBlanc and Kaitlyn Shackelford.

Portland Thorns vs. Houston Dash

The crowd was kept on the edge of their seats this week as the Portland Thorns led by the offensive skills of Zoey Helbert , Abigail Fennelly, Casey Kelley and Isabella Rogers resulted in scoring opportunities by Lindsay Broussard and Charlotte Forcina. The defense was not to be left out of this one either as Ava Cirone, Cayley Israelson, and Isabella Zaya kept the ball out of their zone for much of the game.  The crowd roared to their feet when Sofia Tentindo and Allison Boutoures made some spectacular saves.

The Dash would not back down from this back and forth match. Goals by Erin McCarthy, Cate MacDonald & Sophia Cataldi brought the crowd to a frenzy. A spectacular display of defensive skills was shown by Ava Warford.  In addition, the midfield play of Kristal Wells and Shannon Barrett kept constant pressure on the opponent’s net.  The return of Giana Grieco and Tessa Lebrecque-Pineau to the Dash’s lineup brought a boost of energy and enthusiasm.

Boys Grade 2 Games:

DC United vs. Houston Dynamo

Proving they were also World Cup Competitors Ryan Gray, Adam Veliz and Dylan Grace scored for DC United in this hard fought game. John Haggerty, Timothy Watson, Luke Deprofio, Chase Heffernan and Luke Kitanov added the offensive punch and Logan Zimmer and Alexander D’Angelo held up the defense. It was an outstanding team effort capped off with great goal keeping by Quinn Stockman and Ethan Afthim.
