OBITUARY: Frank Hojlo, 89

Frank Hojlo passed away Thursday evening October 8th at the Beverly Hospital after being admitted for a brief and sudden illness. He was 89 years of age.

He was born in Philadelphia to Polish immigrants; Andrew and Mary Hojlo, as a young child he settled in Chelsea with his parents and siblings. Frank attended local schools and as a senior attending Chelsea High School Class of 1944 when he enlisted in the US Marine Corps. Immediately after graduating he was admitted into the Corp missing his graduation exercises. He received his diploma in the mail while in boot camp. During WW II Frank was stationed in the Pacific Theater and was engaged in battles in Guadalcanal and the Battle of Midway. After his discharge in 1946 he returned to Chelsea and enrolled at Bentley College where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in accounting.

He was married to the former Mildred Hicks and together raised three sons from the family home on Library St. in Chelsea. Frank was first employed at the Shawmut Bank, formerly on Broadway Chelsea. Later, he was employed as an Office Accountant with the Honeywell Corp in Burlington and Wilmington; he retired in 1985 after 35 years with that company. He was a Member of the Knights of Columbus Chelsea Council 83, a Fourth Degree Knight, Bishop Cheverus Assembly, and a member of the K. of C. Couples Club. Frank spent the first few years of his retirement caring for his wife Mildred who sadly passed away in 1988. He married again, this time to the former Rae (Nickerson) Diamond. Together they relocated to Saugus. He was a member of the VFW DeFronzo Post in Saugus. He was also preceded in death by his wife Rae in 2004. He relocated to Brooksby Village in Peabody and was an active resident there for the past 10 years. In his life Frank always loved to work and continued assisting people helping prepare their tax returns.

He was the beloved husband of the late Mildred M. (Hicks) Hojlo and the late Rae (Nickerson) Diamond-Hojlo. Devoted father of Frank Hojlo, Jr. and his wife Jody of Pelham NH, James Hojlo and his wife Leona of Stoughton and Thomas Hojlo of Merrimack NH. Cherished grandfather of Frank Joseph Hojlo, III, Justin and Michael Hojlo, Gina Finno, Krista Hojlo and the late Juliann Hojlo. Adored great-grandfather of Ava Finno. Dear brother of the late Andrew and Joseph Hojlo.

ARRANGEMENTS: His Funeral will begin from the Frank A. Welsh & Sons Funeral Home 718 Broadway CHELSEA on Tuesday October 13th, at 9:00 A.M. Followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Rose Church, 600 Broadway Chelsea at 10:00 A.M. Services will conclude with Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the Welsh Funeral Home on Monday from 4 – 7 P.M. Funeral Home fully handicap accessible, ample parking opposite Funeral Home.
