WILMINGTON, MA — Below is a listing of FREE upcoming programs for adults, teens and kids at the Wilmington Memorial Library.

Registration begins 30 days prior to the event. Please register online using our Calendar of Events at www.wilmlibrary.org or by calling (978) 694-2099 (for Adult) or (978) 694-2098 (for Children/Teen). Adult Events

Writing Group
Saturday, October 3, 9:15 am-11:15 am
If you love to write and seek input and accountability, then join our writing group. Please bring up to five pages of written work to the meeting. Open to all genres and levels. Led by local writing enthusiast, Barbara Alevras.

Birthday Cards with Elaine Sousa (ages 16+, limit 12, cost $5.00)
Saturday, October 3, 1:30 pm
In this class you will make two birthday cards–one pop-up and one gate fold. You will learn multiple paper techniques, such as embossing, 3-D flower making, creating pop-ups, “fancy folds” and more. Led by Elaine Sousa, expert paper-crafter/card-maker.

Cookin’ the Books
Tuesday, October 6, 1 pm
If you love to cook and enjoy talking about food and sharing recipes then this book group is for you. A new book that focuses on food will be featured every month. Stop by the library to pick up a copy, select a recipe and email your selection to book club leader Lisa Crispin (lcrispin@mvlc.org). Come to the meeting and enjoy sampling everyone’s dishes and enjoy the company! The featured cookbook for the October meeting is The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from my Frontier by Ree Drummond

Telescopes 101
Thursday, October 8, 7 pm
Join us for a family-oriented presentation of our new telescope! Learn about the telescope, how it works and how to use it. Suggestions on how to search for objects to view by “Star Hopping” will be given and you’ll learn what is up in the night sky to view this month.

Let’s move! Join us for a morning of singing, dancing, and moving around! Ages 18 months-2.

Extreme Improv: An Exploration of Creative Drama
Monday, October 5, 3:45 pm
Actors will explore the secrets of improvisation as a performance art form with theater coach Cindi Haggerty as you act out theater games, rock character development scenes, and perform and acting challenge. Grades 4-8.

Blue Star Planetarium: In My Backyard *RR
Wednesday, October 7, 5:30 pm
Come inside the portable planetarium! Explore the backyard through the seasons and get introduced to Moon phases, constellations, and the planets. Kindergarten-Grade 3.

Blue Star Planetarium: Oasis in Space *RR
Wednesday, October 7, 6:30 pm
Step in the portable planetarium to be transported on a startling and beautiful voyage through our universe, galaxy and solar system in search of liquid water – a key ingredient for life on Earth. Grades 4-6.

Introducing Zoey the Library Labrador
Thursday, October 8, 4-5 pm
Sign up to read to Zoey, the Library Labrador. Zoey is a great listener who loves to have children of all ages to read to her and improve their reading skills. Please call the Children’s Department at 978-694-2098 to sign up for a 15 minute session.

Library News

Library Schedule October 6 and October 7
Please note that the first floor of the library will be closed the mornings of Tuesday, October 6 and Wednesday, October 7 from 9 am until 12 noon for the installation of a new service desk. The first floor of the library will reopen at noon both days. The Children’s Room will be open during this time.
