PHOTO OF THE DAY: Never Forget Ronald Eaton, A Wilmington Naval Officer Missing In Action

WILMINGTON, MA — National POW/MIA Recognition Day was observed last Friday, September 18. According to the National League of POW/MIA Families, the day “honors our missing service members and their families, and highlights the government’s commitment to account for them.”

At last week’s Board of Selectmen Meeting, Selectman Lou Cimaglia, also the Town’s Veterans Agent, asked residents to say a prayer for Ronald Eaton, a naval officer from Wilmington who went missing during the Korean War.  He was reportedly killed in action on June 25, 1952, but his remains were never recovered.

“Hopefully, some day, [the government] will be able to identify him and bring him home to his family,” said Cimaglia.

The town constructed and maintains a memorial for Ensign Eaton near the intersection of Main Street and Glen Road. Eaton’s story also has been highlighted numerous times in the Wilmington Town Crier, including this great 2011 article by Marcy Ragucci.

Eaton’s 1947 Wilmington High School yearbook photo is below. A week late, but I pass along Selectman Cimaglia’s request that you say a prayer, or take a moment, for Mr. Eaton and all our prisoners of war and brave men and women who are missing in action.
