WILMINGTON, MA – Wilmington’s 2015 MCAS results were released this morning at 12:01am. View them HERE on the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s website.
A very basic preliminary review of the data indicates mixed results for Wilmington.
The Good News: Wilmington’s MCAS scores were above or at the state average in all but one instance (SCIENCE in Grade 5).
Grade 3 Results
- 61% of Wilmington third graders scored proficient or higher in ENGLISH, slightly higher than the state (60%).
- 73% of Wilmington third graders scored proficient or higher in MATH, higher than the state (70%).
Grade 4 Results
- 76% of Wilmington fourth graders scored proficient or higher in ENGLISH, much higher than the state (53%).
- 69% of Wilmington fourth graders scored proficient or higher in MATH, much higher than the state (47%).
Grade 5 Results
- 77% of Wilmington fifth graders scored proficient or higher in ENGLISH, higher than the state (71%).
- 70% of Wilmington fifth graders scored proficient or higher in MATH, higher than the state (67%).
- 47% of Wilmington fifth graders scored proficient or higher in SCIENCE, below the state (51%).
Grade 6 Results
- 76% of Wilmington sixth graders scored proficient or higher in ENGLISH, higher than the state (71%).
- 66% of Wilmington sixth graders scored proficient or higher in MATH, higher than the state (62%).
Grade 7 Results
- 79% of Wilmington seventh graders scored proficient or higher in ENGLISH, much higher than the state (70%).
- 51% of Wilmington seventh graders scored proficient or higher in MATH, matching the state (51%).
Grade 8 Results
- 83% of Wilmington eighth graders scored proficient or higher in ENGLISH, higher than the state (80%).
- 64% of Wilmington eighth graders scored proficient or higher in MATH, higher than the state (60%).
- 48% of Wilmington eighth graders scored proficient or higher in SCIENCE, higher than the state (42%).
Grade 10 Results
- 94% of Wilmington sophomores scored proficient or higher in ENGLISH, higher than the state (91%).
- 88% of Wilmington sophomores scored proficient or higher in MATH, much higher than the state (79%).
- 72% of Wilmington sophomores scored proficient or higher in SCIENCE, matching the state (72%).
The Bad News: Wilmington’s 2015 MCAS scores, in ten instances, declined from 2014.
Grade 3 Results
- 61% of Wilmington third graders scored proficient or higher in ENGLISH, down from 70% from last year.
- 73% of Wilmington third graders scored proficient or higher in MATH, down from 76% from last year.
Grade 4 Results
- 77% of Wilmington fourth graders scored proficient or higher in ENGLISH, up sharply from 67% from last year.
- 69% of Wilmington fourth graders scored proficient or higher in MATH, up sharply from 59% from last year.
Grade 5 Results
- 78% of Wilmington fifth graders scored proficient or higher in ENGLISH, up from 74% from last year.
- 70% of Wilmington fifth graders scored proficient or higher in MATH, down from 72% from last year.
- 47% of Wilmington fifth graders scored proficient or higher in SCIENCE, down sharply from 60% from last year.
Grade 6 Results
- 76% of Wilmington sixth graders scored proficient or higher in ENGLISH, up from 73% from last year.
- 66% of Wilmington sixth graders scored proficient or higher in MATH, up from 62% from last year.
Grade 7 Results
- 79% of Wilmington seventh graders scored proficient or higher in ENGLISH, down from 81% last year.
- 51% of Wilmington seventh graders scored proficient or higher in MATH, slightly up from 50% last year.
Grade 8 Results
- 83% of Wilmington eighth graders scored proficient or higher in ENGLISH, down from 87% last year.
- 64% of Wilmington eighth graders scored proficient or higher in MATH, down slightly from 65% last year.
- 48% of Wilmington eighth graders scored proficient or higher in SCIENCE, matching last year’s 48%.
Grade 10 Results
- 94% of Wilmington sophomores scored proficient or higher in ENGLISH, down from 99% last year.
- 88% of Wilmington sophomores scored proficient or higher in MATH, down from 92% from last year.
- 72% of Wilmington sophomores scored proficient or higher in SCIENCE, down from 80% from last year.
