Wilmington Youth Soccer’s Latest In-Town Game Summaries (September 19)

Below are Wilmington Youth Soccer in-town game summaries from Saturday, September 19.

Boys Grade 1 games:

LA Galaxy vs. NY Red Bulls

What a battle between rivals LA Galaxy who took on the NY Red Bulls.

Nonstop action from the opening whistle as Nicolas Melargani, Cameron Molina and Jonathan Stokes got on the scoreboard, while amazing defense skills of Henry Almeda, Richard Holland and Jack Morin stopped all counter attacks.  Not to be outdone in the middle, Jake Driscoll took control of the game to ensure a satisfactory outcome on a hot blistering day

NE Revolution vs. Houston Dynamo

Nobody stayed home for this action packed game. The Revolution’s Chase Levesque and Jonathan Malley scored, getting the crowd jumping out of their seats. Outstanding offense by Chase O’Brien and Nate Anderson set up many scoring chances. The flawless defense of Ari Donn and Daniel Fogg provided great protection for the goal.

Top-Notch play kept people watching this one. Excellent offensive plays by Ryan Archer, Michael Ohearn and Preston Hunt applied heavy pressure causing the Revolution to back pedal. Defensive positioning by Maxwell Bagtaz, Aiden Ohearn and Zachary Atwater fended off any threat that came thru making it tough for the Revolution.

Girls Grade 1 games:

Kansas City vs. Boston Breakers

On the other side of the ball for the FC Kansas City was an incredible offensive performance by Olivia Raposa and Savannah Beatrice, while goals scored by Lucy Mendoza and Emma Callahan got FC Kansas City on the board. With a rock solid defensive stand led by Caitlin Hayes and Hailey Reguera FC Kansas City was consistently on point. The midfield team of Ellie Gillis and Daniella Madore could only be classified as awesome.

Seattle Reign vs. Chicago Red Stars

The Red Stars would not back down in this match-up. Offensive pressure by Olivia Martiniello and Angelina Vo, lead to many near scoring chances. Solid mid-field play from Celina Vo and Bailey O’Connor kept constant pressure on the Reign’s defense. Defensive positioning from Jenna Giammarco and Emma Tarin fended many of the Reign’s threats making it tough to convert scoring opportunities.

Girls Grade 2 games:

Seattle Reign vs. Portland Thorns

The Portland Thorns would not back down from this back and forth match. Goals by Abigail Fennelly, Charlotte Forcina, Allison Boutoures and Lindsay Broussard brought the crowd to a frenzy. A spectacular display of defensive skills was shown by Casey Kelley and Cayley Israelson. In addition the midfield play of Sofia Tentindo, Zoey Helbert and Isabella Zaya kept constant pressure on the opponents net.  Timely saves by Ava Cirone and Isabella Rogers helped strengthen a solid team effort.

Washington Spirit vs. Chicago Red Stars

In what could have been confused as a World Cup Match, the Washington Spirit started off strong with great offensive pressure from Maeve Doherty, Mackenzie Scanlon, and Macy Savage.  Coupled with the steel-like defense of Emma Callahan, Cara DiGiovanni, and Abbiagael Wiklund their efforts made for an incredible game. Lily Abbott and Sarah Sampson scored first for the Washington Spirit, while the Hope Solo like effort of Maria McCarthy and Maddie Gryglik provided solid goal-keeping to keep their team alive.

Boston Breakers vs. Houston Dash

Nobody stayed home for this action packed game. Alexis LeBlanc, Summer Sands, and Katherine Hughes scored, getting the crowd jumping out of their seats. Outstanding offense by Nicole Gallucci, Kaitlyn Shackelford and Madelyn Oatis set up many scoring chances. The flawless defense of Samantha Crowley, Leah Murphy, Marina Feeney, and Sabrina Fitzgerald provided great protection for the Goal Keepers.

Boys Grade 2 games:

DC United vs. Chicago Fire

The DC United team was impressive on the offensive side of the ball with great skill in the midfield by Timothy Watson and John Haggerty being displayed leading to goals by Brendan Ferrone and Luke Kitanov. The defense showcased their skills today with Luke Deprofio, Quinn Stockman, Ethan Afthim, Alex D’Angelo, Logan Zimmer, Adam Veliz keeping the ball out of their zone for much of the game; while the goal keeping team of Chase Heffernan, Ryan Gray and Dylan Grace made this game close.

Sounders FC vs. Columbus Crew

Top-Notch play kept people watching this one. Excellent offensive plays by Luke Cushing, Jake Cronin, Colin Allard, and Roman Synnott applied heavy pressure causing the Sounders FC to back pedal. Defensive positioning by Conor burns, Gavin Churchill, Alexander D’Anna, Michael Fay and Vincent Vindice fended off any threat that came thru making it tough for the Sounders FC. Spencer Talbot and Joseph (Vacuum) Glaser also played a great game in net, keeping the game in hand.
