QUESTION OF THE DAY: Will You Help Restart The Wilmington High Alumni Association?

After the recent Wilmington High School Time Capsule Opening and Buzzell School’s 80th Reunion Anniversary, it’s got me thinking — why doesn’t Wilmington have an active High School Alumni Association, like many of our neighbors, including the Shawsheen Tech?  We have an excellent alumni association for athletics.  A more general alumni association would hold events for alumni that aren’t class-specific or based around athletics. The possibilities are endless, but initial ideas include: creating an alumni directory, establishing an alumni hall-of-fame, holding annual roasts for retired teachers, starting an alumni referral/networking group, giving annual tours of old school buildings in town, and holding fun events allowing alumni to reconnect and keep WHS’s history alive. And there’s definitely lots of opportunities to collaborate with the Wilmington Town Museum, Wilmington Senior Center and Wilmington Memorial Library.

If you’d be interested in helping restart the town’s dormant high school alumni association, please call me at 978-604-8933 or email wilmingtonapple@gmail.com. We will be holding an exploratory meeting at some point next month. Kathleen Bell, the longtime leader of the alumni association, will hopefully be joining us.  I’ll also be putting a notice in the Wilmington Town Crier, but please pass this message along to anyone you feel might be interested!
