Wilmington Schools Ranked 61st (out of 125) in Greater Boston By Boston Magazine

WILMINGTON, MA — Boston Magazine published its annual public schools rankings last week.

Wilmington ranked practically right in the middle — 61st out of 125 Greater Boston public school systems.

The magazine ranked all the public school systems inside I-495, using the most recent data available from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Ranking criteria included:

  • Average class size
  • Student-to-teacher ratio
  • Per-Pupil spending
  • Graduation rate
  • College attendance rate
  • Average SAT Reading, Writing and Math scores
  • Advanced Placement participation and scores
  • Advanced Placement scores
  • 3rd grade MCAS scores (% scoring proficient or higher) for Reading and Math
  • 5th grade, 8th grade and 10th grade MCAS scores (% scoring proficient or higher) for English, Math and Science

Wilmington (#61)  ranked below neighbors Andover (#26), Burlington (#39), North Reading (#48), and Reading (#55), but above neighbors Woburn (#86), Tewksbury (#87) and Billerica (#88).

According to the Magazine, the overall top five public school systems in Greater Boston are Dover-Sherborn (#1), Weston (#2), Lexington (#3), Wayland (#4) and Bedford (#5). The bottom five are Everett (#121), Brockton (#122), Lynn (#123), Lawrence (#124) and Chelsea (#125).
