LIBRARY LINEUP: Saturday Hours Resume Sept. 12; Adult Summer Reading Program Winners Announced

WILMINGTON, MA — Below is a listing of FREE upcoming programs for adults, teens and kids at the Wilmington Memorial Library.

Registration begins 30 days prior to the event. Please register online using our Calendar of Events at www.wilmlibrary.org or by calling (978) 694-2099 (for Adult) or (978) 694-2098 (for Children/Teen). Please note we request registration for programs that are marked (RR). Thank you to the Friends of the Library for funding  support for library programs!

Adult Programs

Tuesday Night Craft: Bird House Decorating
Tuesday, September 8, 7 pm

Decorate a wooden bird house using scrapbook paper, book pages and mod podge. Please register at library’s main desk. (ages 16+, cost $5.00)

Excel (with Lynda.com) (RR)
Tuesday, September 8, 2:30 pm

This hands-on Microsoft Excel 2010 class led by Technology Librarian, Brad McKenna will cover such topics as explanation of the various tabs found on “The Ribbon”, exposure to the various text formatting options, and learning about formulas.

Axis360 (RR)
Wednesday, September 9, 7 pm

The library recently joined the Digital Commonwealth, a state-run program to supplement libraries’ eBook collections. Join Technology Librarian, Brad McKenna, as he walks through the new website and shows you how to download eBooks using the Axis360 app, Blio.

The Basics of Bird Identification with Dave Williams (RR)
Thursday, September 10, 7 pm

Local Bird Watcher Dave Williams will present a two-part series on bird watching.  Each program can be enjoyed separately if you cannot attend both.  This session will cover the basics of bird watching: how to select and use a field guide, using binoculars, and “where to go birding Pt. 1”.  Please bring a field guide and binoculars to this session if you have them.

Cemetery Stroll — Old Burial Ground (RR)
Saturday, September 12, 10 am

Join us for our third Cemetery Stroll, starting in the parking lot behind the library. This year’s stroll will feature a walk to the Old Burial Ground and a wander through older parts of the Wildwood Cemetery. Wear your walking shoes and bring your curiosity!

Writing Group (RR)
Saturday, September 12, 9:15 am-11:15 am (second Saturday)

If you love to write and seek input and accountability, then join our writing group. Please bring up to five pages of written work to the meeting. Open to all genres and levels. Led by local writing enthusiast, Barbara Alevras.

Kids Programs

Art Adventures: Dr. Seuss (RR)
Tuesday, September 8, 3:45 pm

Create your own masterpieces in the style of Dr. Seuss. We’ll explore different forms of media and techniques to make one of a kind artwork for you to take home. Grades 1-3.

Homeschool LEGO Meet-Up
Wednesday, September 9, 1 pm

Come meet other homeschooling families in Wilmington.  The kids can build with our LEGOs while parents network.  Kindergarten+

Preschool Drop-In Storytime
Friday, September 11, 10 am

Drop in for stories, songs, rhymes and a fun craft! Ages: 2-5 and one or more adults.

Celebrate Grandparents Day
Friday, September 11, 11 am-4 pm

Bring your Grandma or Grandpa with you to the library! Have a snack and make something special for them to take home.

Drop-In Baby Times
Saturday, September 12, 9:30 am

Babies and their caregivers will enjoy this fun storytime that includes rhymes, songs, books, scarves, shakers, bubbles and more. Infants through 24 months.

Dads and Donuts
Saturday, September 12, 10:30 am

Dads and their kids ages 2 and up are invited to drop in for stories, songs, rhymes and more.  Moms, grandparents and other caregivers are welcome, too! Ages: 2-5 and one or more adults.

Library News

Holiday Hours
The library will be closed on Monday, September 7 for the Labor Day Holiday.  Please note that the library is closed on Saturday, September 5. We resume Saturday hours on Saturday, September 12.
