WILMINGTON, MA — 65 incidents were entered into the Wilmington Police Log on Wednesday, August 5. Here are ELEVEN highlights:
- DPW reported a landscaping truck spilled pea stone all over the road on Salem Street and requested an officer for assistance. The State Police Truck Team was notified. State Trooper took truck down to Benevento’s to unload and inspect further. Truck was put out of service. (8:12am)
- A caller reported he came across a GPS on the ground on his ride to work on Glen Road. He requested an officer come and retrieve it. (9:59am)
- A caller reported that at 7am today, he was side swiped on Concord Street by a white box truck. (11:47am)
- A white 2000 Toyota Corolla and a green 2006 Ford Truck were involved in a motor vehicle crash on Main Street. Both operators were issued criminal applications for operating without a license. One driver was transported to Winchester Hospital with an undisclosed injury. (12:59pm)
- A contractor doing work at Tecomet on Ballardvale Street reported he struck a gas line. National Grid was notified. Wilmington Fire Department responded. (1:54pm)
- George Bimbo (26, Wilmington) was issued a summons for peddling door-to-door violation. A resident contacted the police after being approached by a sealcoating company on Eleanor Drive. (5:52pm)
- A 4-car accident occurred on Church Street. No injuries noted. (6:04pm)
- A child called the police from Sonny’s Mobile on the Run on Lowell Street, reporting he was kidnapped by his grandparents and was being taken to New Hampshire. He stated he is not allowed to cross state lines, and made them let him get out of the car. Police investigated. Child now says his grandparents were heading to New Hampshire to buy cigarettes and he refused to go with them, so they dropped him off at the gas station to find his own way home. He’s now making calls for a ride home. (6:38pm)
- A Sheridan Road resident was having work done on his home by a contracting company and he caught workers trying to take scrap copper off of his property. He wanted the incident logged. (6:46pm)
- The manager at CVS on Main Street asked a panhandler to leave. He left, but later returned. Man was described as white, blonde hair, wearing a white-shirt and shorts. Police sent the panhandler on his way. (7:08pm)
- A dog was reported in a white 2007 Ford Ecovan with the windows completely up at the Market Basket parking lot. Police spoke with the owner, who was only in the store for approximately 10 minutes. Police gauged that the temperature inside the vehicle was not hot. Police advised the owner not to leave the dog inside the vehicle while shopping. (7:09pm)
