POLICE LOG for August 4: Trees & Wires Down Across Wilmington Due To Hailstorm

WILMINGTON, MA — 88 incidents were entered into the Wilmington Police Log on Tuesday, August 4.  Here are ELEVEN highlights:

  • A manager at Sonic requested a man be removed from the dining room. Police sent the man on his way. (8:18am)
  • A minor motor vehicle crash occurred on Church Street between a black 2006 BMW and a gray 2010 Subaru Outback. No injuries reported. (10:25am)
  • A Baland Road caller reported an IRS scam. She did not give out any information. Scammer told her to call 202-684-3402. Police made a log entry of the call. (2:43pm)
  • A tree was down across the roadway on Salem Street. DPW was notified. Tree was removed from roadway. A sink hole formed in the area. DPW was aware of the situation and placed cones in the roadway. (3:12pm)
  • A Middlesex Avenue caller reported a tree branch fell on two vehicles in a parking lot. The caller is stating the tree is town-owned. DPW was notified and advised. (3:24pm)
  • Branches took down a wire across the roadway on Adams Street. Fire Department reported a cable line is down on the side of the road and not posing a hazard at this time. (3:29pm)
  • Police reported the train gates on Middlesex Avenue were malfunctioning. MBTA was notified and a technician responded. Gates were eventually reset and began working properly. (3:58pm)
  • A tree was reported down, partially blocking the road on Industrial Way at Woburn Street. Tree was found on the side of the road, with both lanes of traffic able to get by. Tree Department would take care of the tree in the morning. (4:14pm)
  • Lightning struck power lines on Salem Street, shearing them in half. Lines were snapped in half, but weren’t posing a hazard. Reading Light was notified. (4:19pm)
  • A wire was reported down on Hathaway Road. A RMLD wire from house to pole was down across the road. RMLD was notified. Fire Department moved wire to the side of the road. (6:00pm)
  • A fallen tree was reported on Fordham Road, partially in the roadway. (8:10pm)
