10 Things That Happened At This Week’s Selectmen’s Meeting

WILMINGTON, MA — Here are TEN things that happened at the Wilmington Board of Selectmen Meeting on Monday.  (Look for TEN additional things later this week.)

#1) Selectmen unanimously approved the request of Manafort Brothers to renew their earth removal permit for Wilmington High School, extending it from July 21 to December 31.  Town Manager Jeff Hull noted the project is in “its final stages,” with work expected to be completed by October 23. Current projects include creating a parking lot area off of Adams Street and installing a multi-purpose field off of Wildwood Street.

#2) Selectmen unanimously approved four requests from Verizon New England and/or Reading Municipal Light to add two poles on Church Street as part of the high school project; two poles on Lowell Street; and one pole on Jacquith Road, while removing an existing pole on Church Street.

#3) Selectmen approved the request of Jack Cushing and the Wilmington Athletic Alumni and Friends to use the Town Common and Gazebo on Wednesday, August 5, from 5pm to 9pm, for the purpose of a concern featuring the Wildcat Alumni Band. The Senior Center’s Choir has also been invited to perform. A rain date is scheduled for Thursday, August 6. Selectwoman Judy O’Connell abstained from the vote as she’s a board member of the alumni organization.

#4) Selectmen approved the request of Beesa Ram, the new owner of Michael’s Place, to obtain an All Alcohol License for the restaurant. Selectman Mike McCoy, former owner, recused himself.

#5) Selectmen unanimously approved the request of Michael Sciarra, owner of Unique Auto Care, to obtain a Class II Garage License for his shop at 611 Main Street.  Sciarra voluntarily agreed to never have more than five cars for sale on the lot at the same time.

#6) Selectmen accepted a gift of approximately 18,730 square feet of land on Eddy Street (Assessors’ Map 41, Parcel 85) from Eric G. Swanson. The care, custody and control of the land will now lie with the Town’s Conservation Commission.

#7) Selectmen agreed to sign an alcohol beverage control commission form (Form #43) to reflect a change in the membership of the Board of Directors of the Shriners.

#8) Selectmen unanimously approved Police Chief Michael Begonis’s request to place banners on the Town Common’s gazebo for the purpose of advertising the National Night Out Event on Tuesday, August 4.

#9) Selectmen unanimously approved the request of a Jacobs Street resident to have a Neighborhood Block Party on Saturday, August 29, 2pm-8pm.  Selectmen also approved the request of a Fletcher Lane resident to have a Neighborhood Block Party on Saturday, August 1, 1pm-8pm.

#10) Selectmen unanimously approved the requests of Joseph Dulock, Nicholas Dulock, and Steven Dulock — all of Mimzee’s Ice Cream — to obtain Hawk & Pedle licenses to sell ice cream.
