Wilmington Rec Still Has Openings For Kids Kayaking, Flag Football, & More!

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Recreation Department wants residents to know that there are still openings for the programs below!  Registration information can be found HERE.

“Adventure Kids” Kayaking Clinic
Instructor: Still River Outfitters
Ages: 8 – 14
Dates: Monday – Wednesday, July 20 – 22
Times: 2 – 5 p.m.
Location: Silver Lake
Cost: $120
This three-day program combines recreational kayaking skills development with Adventure Education Initiatives.  Participants will learn to overcome challenges individually through paddling and as a team through fun, challenging games.

Dates: Monday – Friday, July 27 – 31
Time: 12 – 3 p.m.

The next-step program for kids who can’t get enough science and math!  While learning from fast-paced and funny scientists, students will absorb great skills like problem solving, critical thinking and scientific reasoning.  Explore physics, simple machines, crazy chemistry, science games and magic.

Chefs in Training – Summer Sizzle (An additional class has been added)
Instructor: Lori Deliso, Kids Cooking Green
Grades: 3 – 7
Dates: Monday – Friday, August 3 – 7
Time: 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Location: Wilmington High School Consumer Science Room
Cost: $250
Celebrate summer by learning to cook delicious foods using fresh local ingredients! Prepare homemade pasta, Red, White and Blue Fruit Cobbler, Farmer’s Market Pizza, Farm-Fresh Frittatas, Ice Cream and more! Learn cooking techniques and those all important knife skills. Each class will highlight a different hands-on recipe while you prepare a healthy, hearty main course, dessert and beverage to enjoy at the end of each class.  Go home with recipes, a full belly and new knowledge of local ingredients and nutrition facts.  There is an optional field trip included to the Wilmington Farmer’s Market on Sunday, August 2 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. where students will shop for supplies for the week and participate in a ‘Food Network Style” challenge.

Saturday Night Lights Flag Football
Grades: 1 – 8
Dates: Saturdays, September 12 – November 7 (No 10/31), 8 Weeks

Grades 1 – 3: 5 – 6 p.m.
Grades 4 – 5: 6 – 7 p.m.
Grades 6 – 8: 7 – 8 p.m.
Location: WHS Football Field
Cost: $110
This no-contact co-ed league allows every player the opportunity to play quarterback!  SNL is designed to provide fun football play in a safe environment.  Players will develop and improve their fine and gross motor skills as well as coordination and football skills.  Each player receives a shirt and a mouthpiece.  Players need non-metal cleats or sneakers.
