OBITUARY: Ruth A. Carroll (Bennett), 61

Ruth A. Carroll (Bennett), age 61, of Wilmington, died peacefully on June 14, 2015, at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House following a courageous battle with cancer.

Ruth was born in Waltham, MA, on April 19, 1954; she was the cherished daughter of Beatrice N. (Myrick) and the late David S. Bennett, Sr. Ruth was raised in North Reading but spent her summers as a kid in Winter Harbor, Maine. Ruth loved going to Maine, boating on the Harbor, and making many fond childhood memories with her family. Ruth graduated from North Reading High School and went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Business from Middlesex Community College in Bedford.

Early in her career, Ruth went to work for Wakefield Savings Bank as a Customer Service Representative; with her vast knowledge and great work ethic she was eventually promoted to Branch Manager.

Ruth met David Carroll and the couple became inseparable; they were not only a wonderful couple but truly best friends. Ruth and David were married on September 20, 1975, sharing nearly 40 years of marriage together. The couple settled in Wilmington in 1983 where they raised two great kids Brian and Kimberly. Ruth left her position at the bank to dedicate herself to her family and raise her children. Ruth was very devoted to her kids and was always active in their school and sporting events. Ruth was very involved in the Girl Scouts as a troop leader and an incredible “cookie salesperson”, she was also active in the Wilmington Boosters Club where she volunteered countless hours raising money for Wilmington High School sports.

Ruth and David bought their own “family home” in Maine where she made many more incredible memories for her children and grandchildren to share. Ruth loved to go fishing, kayaking, and of course she enjoyed her Maine Lobsters.

In her spare time, Ruth was a “Master” at knitting and crocheting; she made many wonderful gifts throughout the years that will be treasured by her family and friends.

Ruth will be fondly remembered as a kind and gentle woman; she was sweet, caring, and always willing to help others. Ruth’s love and devotion to her family and friends was always unconditional; they will forever miss her smiling face.

Ruth was the beloved wife of David F. Carroll, devoted mother of Brian Carroll & his wife Heather of Norwell and Kimberly Flanagan & her husband Sean of Stoneham, loving “Nana” of Pace, Reagan, and Bennett Carroll. Cherished daughter of Beatrice N. (Myrick) and the late David S. Bennett, Sr. of Winter Harbor, ME, dear sister of David S. Bennett, Jr. & his wife Gloria of Templeton. Daughter-in-law of Ruth E. and the late Elmer Carroll of Wakefield, sister-in-law of Paul & Nanci Carroll of Florida, Kathy & Robert Baxter of Pepperell, Sheila & David Parr and Cheryl Carroll all of Wakefield, Susan & William LeDuc of Rochester, NH, the late Joan, Thomas, and Christopher Carroll. Ruth is survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Friday, June 19th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 10:00 a.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, June 18th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Memorial donations in Ruth’s name may be made to the Sawtelle Family Hospice House, 320 Haverhill St., Reading, MA 01867.
