Below are Wilmington Youth Soccer in-town game summaries from Saturday, June 6.
Boys Kindergarten games:
Colorado Rapids vs. Portland Timbers
An exciting encounter between the Colorado Rapids and the Portland Timbers kept the cheering crowd on their feet. Viraj Patel, Ryan Archer and Evan Walsh strong tough work on the field led to several goal scoring opportunities, while the iron clad defensive efforts of Frank Cain, Cameron Molina and Maxwell Bagtaz kept the Timbers from creating an offensive attack.
On the other side of the ball for the Portland Timbers was an incredible offensive performance by Henry Santini and Surau Sanariya , while goals scored by Jonathan Stokes and Jake Gryglik got the Portland Timbers on the board. With a rock solid defensive stand led by Liam Zollner the Portland Timbers was never out of this game. The midfield team of Caden Merritt and Riley Caples could only be classified as awesome.
Seattle Sounders vs. Chicago Fire
Top-Notch play kept people watching this one. Excellent offensive plays by Brady Beldekas and Xavier Rojas De Los Santos of the Chicago Fire applied heavy pressure leading to goals by teammate Jonathan Malley. The Fire’s defensive positioning by Jake Beldekas and Ryan Hudd fended off any threat that came thru making it tough for the Sounders to score.
Girls Grade 1 games:
Washington Spirit vs. Houston Dash
The Houston Dash was also impressive on the offensive side of the ball with great skill being displayed by Skylar Nguyen leading to goals by Abigail Howie, Zoey Helbert, and Ava Noble. The defense showcased their skills today with Sadie Winchell and Isabella Rogers keeping the ball out of their zone for much of the game.
Boys Grade 1 games:
New York Red Bulls vs. DC United
The air was full of excitement, as the much-anticipated match between the N.Y. Red Bulls and D.C. United commenced. Fantastic ball skill were displayed by Alexander D’Anna, Dennis Desouza, Jonathan Mason, Kevin Pruslin, Isaac Tavares, Luke, Logan Zimmer and Jake Cronin resulting in goal opportunities by Alexander D’Anna, Isaac Tavares, Dennis Desouza, Luke and Logan Zimmer. The midfield and defensive play of Jonathan Mason and Kevin Pruslin kept the N.Y. Red Bulls in excellent shape. The crowd roared to their feet when Alexander D’Anna, Isaac Tavares, Dennis Desouza, Luke and Logan Zimmer made some spectacular saves.
Colorado Rapids vs. Seattle Sounders
The Colorado Rapids would not back down from this back and forth match. Goals by Guy Jackson and Dylan Grace brought the crowd to a frenzy. A spectacular display of defensive skills was shown by Ethan Afthim and Quinn Stockman. In addition, the midfield play of Cameron Thompson and Roman Synott kept constant pressure on the opponent’s net.
Girls Grade 2 games:
Chicago Red Stars vs. Portland Thorns
In what could have been confused as a World Cup Match, the CHIGACO RED STARS started off strong with great offensive pressure from Madeline Long and Rebecca Hughes coupled with the steel like defense of Kyra Turner and Madison Fenton and made for an incredible game. Addyson Hunt and Allesandra Delgenio scored for the CHIGACO RED STARS while the outstanding efforts of Delaney Ward were solid in the net to keep their team alive. Great passing and ball-handling skills were displayed by the CHIGACO RED STARS during this match.
Boston Breakers vs. Houston Dash
Proving they were also World Cup Competitors Callie Mccauley scored several goals for the Boston Breakes. Kimberly Kane, Alexandra Quick, and Vivien Savoie added the offensive punch and Gabriella Fitzgibbons and Sydney Macpherson held up the defense. It was an outstanding team effort capped off with great goal keeping by Celia Vindice
The crowds gathered at the Shawsheen fields for this back and forth game. The Houston Dash had aggressive offensive attacks led by Kiley Bloom, Skylar Driscoll, Isabella Hart and Alexandra Malley that got the crowd jumping out of their seats. Great defensive effort by Arianna Cook, Raina Raposa and Molly Lydon of the Houston Dash protected goalie Natalie Moretti who made some spectacular saves.
Boys Grade 2 games:
NE Revs vs. DC United
An electrifying atmosphere for the much anticipated rematch between the NE Revolution and DC United. The Revs super forwards of Oliver Ferrer, Tommy Lewis, and Justin Gambale kept pressuring DC time and time again. The iron tough defense of Kaleb Molina and Partick Maillet kept pushing off all attacks while the net minding superb skills of Tyler Marinho and Corey Taylor made for an unforgettable encounter.
