Below are Wilmington Youth Soccer in-town game summaries from Saturday, May 30.
Girls Kindergarten games:
Chicago Red Stars vs. Portland Thorns
One could only believe the silence of the crowd was due to the fantastic ball skill of Elizabeth Kulevich & Isabella Goldstein. However it did not take long for the crowd to cheer as goals were scored by Sara Keck & Emma Ebert. The Chicago Red Stars’ defensive stand made by Madison O’Donoghue & Leah Hanafin could only be viewed as heroic.
FC Kansas City vs. Seattle Reign
The crowds gathered at Shawsheen Field for this back and forth game. FC Kansas City led by Julianna Vitale got the crowd jumping out of their seats. Madison Forbush and Molly Guyette led the scoring charge, while the great defensive effort of Emma Tarin and Jenna Giammarco kept the action going.
Boys Kindergarten games:
Colorado Rapids vs. NY Red Bulls
On a hot muggy Saturday morning, the Colorado Rapids kept the heat on the NY Red Bulls with exciting goals from Ryan Archer, Cameron Molina and Evan Walsh.
The iron clad defense led by Frank Cain, Viraj Patel and Maxwell Bagtaz kept the Red Bulls in check in what turned out to be an exciting soccer match.
Philadelphia Union vs. Chicago Fire
The Chicago Fire would not back down from this back and forth match. Goals by Jonathan Malley brought the crowd to a frenzy. A spectacular display of defensive skill was shown by Xavier Rojas De Los Santos and Ryan Hudd. In addition, the midfield play of Brady and Jake Beldekas kept constant pressure on the opponent’s net.
Girls Grade 1 games:
Portland Thorns Vs. Houston Dash
The Houston Dash was also impressive on the offensive side of the ball with great skill being displayed by Maeve Doherty and Zoey Helbert leading to goals by Ava Noble, Sadie Winchell, and Skylar Nugyen. The defense showcased their skills today with Abigail Howie and Isabella Rogers keeping the ball out of their zone for much of the game.
Boys Grade 1 games:
LA Galaxy vs. NY Red Bulls
The N.Y. Red Bulls were also impressive on the offensive side of the ball with great skill being displayed by Alexander D’Anna, Luke Deprofio, Dennis Desouza, Jonathan Mason, Kevin Pruslin, Isaac Tavares and Vincent Vindice leading to goals by Isaac Tavares. The defense showcased their skills today with Alexander D’Anna, Dennis Desouza and Kevin Pruslin keeping the ball out of their zone for much of the game; while the goal keeping team of Jonathan Mason, Luke Deprofio and Vincent Vindice made this game close.
Colorado Rapids vs. Portland Timbers
One could only believe the silence of the crowd was due to the fantastic ball skill of Dylan Grace and Quinn Stockman. However it did not take long for the crowd to cheer as goals were scored by Jackson Guy. The Colorado Rapids defensive stand made by Matthew Driscoll and Ethan Afthim could only be viewed as heroic.
Seattle Sounders vs. Crew
The crowd was kept on the edge of their seats this week as the Sounders, led by the offensive skills of Adam Brueggman, Jon Meyer and Jacob McCauley resulted in scoring opportunities by Callan Stone and Colin Dwyer. The defense was not to be left out of this one either as Josh Uchendu and Gavin Churchill kept the ball out of their zone for much of the game.
Girls Grade 2 games:
Chicago Red Stars vs. Boston Breakers
The gathered at the Shawsheen fields for this back and forth match. The CHIGACO RED STARS, led by Madeline Long and Madison Fenton, got the crowd jumping out of their seats with fabulous mid-field footwork. Allesandra Delgenio and Addyson Hunt led the scoring charge with a pair of goals while the great defensive effort of all players kept the action going during this picture-perfect match. Excellent goal-tending by Delaney Ward and Kyra Turner kept the BOSTON BREAKERS on their toes and out of the scoring zone. Nothing, including the hot temperatures, stopped these girls from playing their hearts out today.
Top-Notch play kept people watching this one. Joining the Boston Breakers this week was Rebecca Hughes. Excellent offensive plays by Rebecca Hughes and Gabriella Fitzgibbons lead to scoring opportunities for Callie Mccauley. Celia Vindice applied heavy pressure causing the Chicago Red Stars to back pedal. Defensive positioning by Sydney Macpherson fended off any threat that came thru making it tough for the Chicago Red Stars. Alexandra Quick ran hard on the field and had a great game in net, keeping the game close. The Boston Breakers were cheered on by Kailyn Harless and Gracie Berrier, current team members out with injuries.
Portland Thorns vs. Houston Dash
The Houston Dash was also impressive on the offensive side of the ball with great skill being displayed by Skylar Driscoll and Nikki Clarke leading to multiple goals by Kiley Bloom, Alexandra Malley and Arianna Cook. The defense showcased their skills today with Isabella Hart, Molly Lydon and Raina Raposa keeping the ball out of their zone for much of the game; while the goal keeping team of Eleanor Ragsdale and Natalie Moretti was spectacular.
Boys Grade 2 games:
Chicago Fire vs. NE Revs & Seattle Sounders
The air was full of excitement (and humidity), as the much-anticipated match between the Chicago Fire and Seattle Sounders commenced. Fantastic ball skills were displayed by Luca Skorput and Spencer Bagtaz resulting in goals by Ben Gibbons and Luca Gabardi. The midfield play of Layne Coutu and Brennan Walsh kept the Fire in excellent shape. The crowd roared to their feet when John Pozzi and J.J. Del Turco made some spectacular saves. The defensive trio of Jack Murphy, Connor Lovell and John Gibbons helped keep the ball out of the net and led the charge back up the field.
A combined force of NE Revs/Seattle Sounders took on the Chicago Fire in a spectacular clash. Oliver Ferrer opened up the scoring with an amazing shot from just inside the 18. The strong upfront powerhouse of Kaleb Molina and Brendan Fitzgerald kept pressuring until Jack Bourque got on the scoring board. A strong midfield team of Justin Gambale, Zachary Guyette and Cameron Jenks helped move the action back and forth. The strong defensive efforts of Axel Erickson and Terry Ding along with outstanding goal keeping efforts from Corey Taylor and Uriel Hernadez Osorno made for a dramatic and exciting game on a hot Saturday afternoon.
