Wilmington Youth Lacrosse’s Latest Game Summaries (May 16-17)

Below are some Wilmington Youth Lacrosse travel game summaries from last week.

U9 Girls

The U9 girls team played a great game on Sunday afternoon vs. Billerica. At the U9 level, the girls play 7v7 plus goalies. With only 8 girls from the team able to make the game, there were no substitutes, which meant each girl had to play the whole game. The girls held it together and played strong. Starting in goal was Keira Warford. Keira showed great courage and made some terrific saves. Shae Gould played excellent as midfielder, showing her speed and endurance. She scored the first goal of the game, giving Wilmington the lead. Billerica quickly came back scoring a goal. A few minutes after Billerica scored,  Addy Holland carried the ball down the field looking to pass to an attack wing. Meredith Ebert quickly cut for the ball and picked up the pass. Sydney Crane was wide open and calling for the ball. Ebert quickly got the ball to Crane, who ran to score, resulting in a fantastic goal, making the game 2-1. Billerica came back again, running the ball down the field looking to score. The whistle blew ending the first half as Billerica shot the ball into the goal, resulting in no goal.

Meredith Ebert started the second half in goal. She did a great job protecting the cage. Billerica came out strong in the second half, making their way down the field looking to score again. Brynne Ebert and Kaleigh Brennan played tough on both defense and offense and also did a great job marking their opponents. Billerica’s first goal of the second half was also called back, but not their second or third, leaving Billerica in the lead 3-2. Wilmington never gave up, despite the heat and having no substitutes, they gave it their all and played their hearts out. Isabella Iascone ran fast all game and did a great job cutting for the ball. She scored Wilmington’s third goal of the game, making the final score 3-3.

U15 Girls

Great game played against Chelmsford…..goals scored by Sam Burke,  Kaitlin LeBlanc, Raegan Sweeney & Julia Hill.  Megan Santry played an amazing game in net total saves were 23!

Molly Foley, Ashlyn Finn, Felicia Zuccola, Lexi Williams all played great moving the ball up the field.  Emma Rhind, Kendra Prezioso, Cassidy Collins, and Julia Ryan all played  hard moving through the game playing both offense & defense.  Solid defense played the whole game by Gianna Petrucci,  Sophia Damico & Abby Perry!

It was a hot day for the game but the girls played their hearts out.

U15 Boys Blue

The Wilmington U15 Blue team defeated the Bedford U15 Blue team 8-2 on Sunday to improve their record to 4-1 on the season.  After a one goal loss to Peabody in their second game, the U15 Blue team has reeled off three straight wins.  The team was paced by Zach Kincaid who had three goals and two assists on the day, recording his second hat trick in the last three games.  David Fraser also contributed two goals on the day while Adam Bishop, Danny McGaffigan and Ryan Martin each contributed a goal.  Shane Ahlin also contributed two assists. Defensively, the Wildcats were solid, giving up only two goals in the first half and shutting Bedford out in the second half.  Both goals were in man-down situations.  The defense was led by goalie Aaron Soto and defensemen Kyle Kenyon, Frankie Irizarry, Josh Smith and Cam Kenyon.

The Wildcats went into the game a bit undermanned with three of their best players; Andrew Sullivan, Connor Benoit and Danny Woods all missing the game due to playing in the finals of a hockey tournament in Tewksbury (won by Wilmington, 7-1 over Billerica) but U15 White coach Bill Martin helped out and brought along three of his players, Ahlin, Martin and Fraser who played as a second midfield line and contributed greatly on the day.  Wilmington’s other middie line consisted of U15 Blue team members Zach Kincaid, Adam Bishop and Jacob Fox who all made solid contributions offensively, defensively and in faceoff and ground ball situations.

Wilmington is off this weekend due to the Memorial Day holiday but will return to action on May 31 when they take on Haverhill at the Woburn Street School.

U15 Boys Select

On Saturday, the U15 Boys Select team traveled to Swampscott/Nahant and came out on the short end of an 11-7 score.  The boys let up several quick strikes to their opponents, but managed to climb back to a 5-5 score shortly after halftime.  However, they let up on defense and S/N capitalized, scoring most of their second half tallies right in front of the crease, leaving Wilmington goalie Jimmy Theriault helpless to stop them.

Wilmington did have most of the scoring chances throughout the match, but were unable to crack the solid goaltending of the Swampscott/Nahant netminder. Leading the way with the scoring on Saturday were the Wildcat midfielders.  Andrew Sullivan scored two goals & had one assist, and Joey Theriault had 3 goals & one assist.  Attackmen Zach Kincaid and Patrick Modoono rounded out the scoring with one tally each.  Midfielder Ryan Martin added an assist on Theriault’s last goal to the Wildcat cause.  The usually solid Wildcat defensive effort will need to improve over the next two weeks in order for Wilmington to make a run in the championship round of the playoffs.

Next week the U15 team travels to Woburn to take on their rival Tanners @ 7:15 on Thursday night.

U15 Boys White

On a steamy Sunday, the Boys U15 White team took on a solid Chelmsford squad and came away with a 9-5 victory.  However, the score wasn’t indicative of the Wildcats level of play, as Chelmsford scored one goal on a 3 minute penalty and also had 2 other late strikes when that game was well in hand  The Wildcats posted a shutout in the first half of this contest.

The story of the game was defense for Wilmington, as Andrew Munsie had a solid game in net and came away with many saves.  The defensive quartet of Pat McAndrew, Tyler Wood, Ryan Martin & Nate Frye kept Chelmsford’s offense at bay for most of the contest and did a great job clearing the ball after changes in possesion.  Harry Constantino made some key contributions at the end of the contest as well.

Offensively, the Wildcats were paced by midfielders Shane Ahlin with 3 goals and an assist and Dave Fraser who had two goals and an assist.  Linemate Randall Vega was solid all day, as were fellow midfielders Joey Hill and Dylan Wargo, who paved the way for the Wilmington offense.  The attackmen of Vinnie De la Cruz, Mike Santini, JJ Thibert and Thomas Grecco provided reliable shots on net and excellent pressure on the Lion’s defense.  Fellow attacks Jake Timmons and Connor Rooney scored one goal each and Alan Morris scored two goals, which were both assisted on stellar passes by Rooney.
