WILMINGTON, MA — As announced at Monday’s Selectmen’s Meeting, the Wilmington Police Department will be hosting its second annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4 at Rotary Park. (No time was given, but last year’s began at 6pm.)
According to the Wilmington Police Department, National Night Out is designed to: heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support for, and participation in local anti-crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Wilmington will be one of more than 16,000 communities participating from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.
“Our plan this year is celebrate the residents of Wilmington with a dunk tank, children’s movies, and fun for all ages. We are planning on having a touch-a-truck exhibit, K-9 demonstrations, and refreshments to name a few highlights. We will also provide crime prevention education and materials,” wrote Police Chief Michael Begonis in a letter to the Selectmen.
The event is sponsored by the Wilmington Police Department, in partnership with the Cummings Foundation’s 100K For 100 Grant Program and other local business partners.
