Wilmington’s National Champion Cheerleaders Are Honored By Town

WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington Pop Warner Pee Wee Cheer Team (C Team) won the National Championship in Disney World in December, defeating 11 teams from across the country in the Division 3 bracket. It was the 10th time Wilmington cheerleaders have won a National Championship.

As if that wasn’t impressive enough, the team also won the Grand National Championship, recognized as the best team of all ages who competed in the tournament.  Wilmington’s 9, 10 and 11 year-olds scored higher than teams consisting of children up to 15 years of age.

At last night’s Board of Selectmen Meeting, Selectmen and Town Manager Jeff Hull offered their congratulations.

“You should all be very proud of what you accomplished,” Selectman Lou Cimaglia told the squad.  “Wear the W on your shirt with pride.”

“You have carried yourself so well around the state and the country.  The way you conduct yourself affects how people view Wilmington,” said Selectman Mike Champoux.  “Wilmington must be a pretty cool place, then, because look at these ladies.”

“Use this going forward in other things you’re working on, like school,” said Town Manager Jeff Hull.  “If you put in the time and commitment, good things will happen.”

The 19 squad members and 3 coaches each received certificates from the town and then posed for a group photo.
