WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington Middle School 8th grader Joe Scioli recently received second place in the 2014-2015 Italian Heritage Contest sponsored by C.A.S.IT. Joe will receive his $75 award at a celebration on Sunday, May 31 at Christopher Columbus Park in the North End.
In his weekly newsletter to staff, Wilmington Middle School Interim Principal Ralph Olsen explained: “Joe entered the contest independently in which he chose three Italian cities and created a budgeted itinerary of activities. He utilized and demonstrated his knowledge of the Italian language and culture throughout his itinerary referring to famous sites and providing reasons to visit each location. This contest was organized through C.A.S.IT, the organization that supports Italian language and culture learning in Massachusetts. Italian language students throughout Massachusetts were eligible to participate.”
