LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Martinson Thanks Supporters, Congratulates Peterson

Residents of Wilmington:

I want to thank each and every one of you for your support during my run from Town Moderator.  While I fell a few votes short, I was humbled by the amount of support at the ballot box on election day.   Given this was my first run at an elected position and having to face an opponent with very deep family ties, I knew the road ahead would be difficult.  Your support and encouragement kept me going during these two months.   It is clear to me the residents of Wilmington understand the importance of the Moderator’s position and value the Moderator’s function.

I as told Mr. Peterson on election night, his victory was well earned and congratulations are in order.  I expect that he will perform at a high level over the next three years.

In closing, there are too many wonderful people to thank individually.  However, I’d be remiss if I did not call out a few special supporters who shared this journey with me.  First and foremost, to my wife Kelly without you by my side I would not have a family to raise or a house to call home.  Your tireless support and encouragement kept me focused and working.   Your energy inspires me each day.  To my children, Allie, Jessie and Jack, thank you for all your help, encouragement and understanding.  I’m proud to call you my children.  To Mr. Walsh and Mr. Palmer, thank you both for taking the time to learn about me and my qualifications.  Earning your support was one of the highlights of my campaign.  Lastly, to Selectmen Cimaglia and Selectmen Newhouse, without your support and encouragement this experience would not have been possible.  I want to thank each of you for backing what you considered to be the most qualified candidate knowing full well the road was difficult.  Your quality and character are what leaders are made of and the residents of Wilmington are fortunate to have your help in guiding our Town’s path.

I look forward to seeing you all around town for many years to come.  Wilmington is my home!

Best,
Leigh John Martinson
