SENIOR CENTER SPOTLIGHT: 230+ Seniors Got Free Tax Aide From AARP via Senior Center

WILMINGTON, MA — More than 230 seniors were given free tax aide help from February 1 to April 15 thanks to the AARP Tax Program at Wilmington Town Hall, according to AARP Foundation Tax Aide Program District Coordinator Carol Mockler.

In a letter addressed to Town Manager Jeff Hull and provided to Wilmington Apple, AARP praised the town’s support of the program.

We are writing to thank you for the use of Town Hall.

We would also like to praise the members of your staff for their helpfulness and courtesy.  Each week, we found the auditorium set up for us.  The women in your office helped us shred incorrect forms.

Terri Marciello and Kristen Fogarty were invaluable.  In signing seniors up for each tax session and reminding them to come the day before their appointments.  They show a level of dedication to the most frail elders that is unsurpassed.

For many of these seniors, it was an opportunity to meet their tax obligations.  For others, the Senior Circuit Breaker Credit ($1,050) helped them pay for needed medicines, fuel and heat.  Their relief and gratitude was evident.

Again, thank you for making this space available.  Seven volunteers gave over 250 hours to make this a great success.  Together with your great town employees, we were able to accomplish an amazing feat.

Looking forward to a continuing collaboration in these years to come.
