Selectmen Meeting Round-Up: 10 Things That Happened Monday Night

WILMINGTON, MA — The Board of Selectmen covered a great deal at its meeting on Monday night.

#1) As reported on Tuesday, Town Manager Jeff Hull announced that the delays associated with the high school appeals cost the town $1.5 million.

#2) As reported on Wednesday, Selectmen agreed to a new collective bargaining agreement with the Wilmington Police Patrol Officers Union.

#3) As reported on Wednesday, Selectmen received some mixed news on the proposed Kinder Morgan gas pipeline that would run through a portion of town.

#4) Town Manager Jeff Hull announced that the Wilmington Recreation Department will be offering kayaking and paddle board programs for children and adults at Silver Lake this summer.  Still River Outfitters will run the program.  The company has run similar programs successfully throughout the Commonwealth, including in Billerica, Bedford, Carlisle, and Tewksbury.  Look for details in the next Recreation Department Newsletter.

#5) Town Manager Jeff Hull announced the town will be receiving $113,604 from the state as part of Governor Baker’s release of $30 million to deal with potholes and wintry recovery efforts.  The town must spend the money by June 30 on: repairs to streets, potholes, pavement cracking, surface defects, paving projects, guardrails, storm drains, line striping,and the repair & replacement of damaged signs.  Hull has asked Public Works Director Mike Woods to prepare a prioritized list of targeted areas for the next meeting.

#6) The Selectmen voted to sell 34,560 square feet of town-owned land off of Marion Street, per a vote at last year’s Annual Town Meeting.  The land was deemed surplus to the town’s needs.

#7) The Wilmington Band Parents and Friends’ request to sell coffee, donuts, popcorn, cold drinks, pompoms and balloons in front of the Roman House during the Memorial Day Parade was approved by the Board.

#8) The Selectmen approved the renewal of a taxi cab license for Wilmington Taxi and the renewal of a taxi cab operator’s license for owner Timothy Flynn.

#9) Town Clerk Sharon George’s request to appoint 20-25 election workers for 2015 was approved by the Board.

#10) Chair Judy O’Connell announced details of a Public Presentation from the Yentile Farm Development Committee on April 15.
