NEW SENIOR CENTER: Read The Latest Newsletter For The Senior Center Building Project

WILMINGTON, MA — Read the June 2024 newsletter for the Wilmington Senior Center Building Project, published by P3, the project’s OPM firm.

To the Residents of Wilmington,

We are excited to bring you the latest update on the progress of our beloved Wilmington Senior Center! The construction team has been hard at work, and we have some significant developments to share with you.

Progress in May 2024:

Structural Steel Framing Complete:

The skeleton of the senior center is now fully erected, providing the essential support structure for the entire building. This marks a major milestone, ensuring the building’s stability and setting the stage for the next phases of construction.

Wood Framed Wall Framing Substantially Complete:

The walls of the senior center are taking shape, with the majority of the wood framing completed. This step is crucial as it defines the internal and external spaces and allows for the installation of insulation, windows, and exterior cladding.

Wood Trusses Substantially Complete:

The wood trusses, which form the roof’s framework, are nearly finished. These trusses are essential for supporting the roof and ensuring it can withstand various weather conditions. Their completion is a key step toward enclosing the building.

MEP Rough-In Work Continues:

The rough-in phase for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems is ongoing. This involves installing the necessary infrastructure within walls and ceilings before the final finishes are applied. It ensures that all essential services like heating, cooling, electricity, and water supply will be seamlessly integrated.

Expected Progress for June 2024:

Gluelam Timber Framing:

The installation of gluelam (glued laminated timber) beams will begin. These beams are engineered for strength and versatility, offering both structural support and aesthetic appeal. They will be a prominent feature in the senior center, providing both beauty and function.

Roof Assembly (SIP Panels and Roofing Materials):

The roof assembly process will start, utilizing Structural Insulated Panels (SIP) for enhanced energy efficiency and durability. Roofing materials will be applied to create a weather-tight barrier, protecting the interior spaces from the elements.

Exterior Utilities (Lighting, Water & Sewer):

Work on exterior utilities will commence, including the installation of lighting fixtures for outdoor spaces, and connections for water and sewer systems. These utilities are vital for ensuring the building is fully functional and meets the needs of the community.

The Wilmington Senior Center is rapidly taking shape, thanks to the dedicated efforts of our construction team. We look forward to more milestones in the upcoming months!
